Southern Crosse Endurance - who we are.

Southern Crosse Endurance Incoorporated is a volunteer group, established in 2009 by Tony Thorneycroft. Our mission statement provides some detail of our aims and objectives. Below is a list of members of the committee and their statements on what SCEI means to them.
We, SCEI, set up this group to allow a coordinated team of keen riders and endurance enthusiasts to help promote the sport, help one another to set up rides in their local area, source funding and sponsorships for riders, and enable the sport of endurance to grow in Victoria. Our main objective is to provide information to all that are interested and opportunity to experience our wonderful sport and all its facets, from strapping, helping at a ride, learning about sports physiology and medicine, to your first ride, be it 5km or 160km we are here to help you learn and have fun.
Through this BLOG we hope to allow you (the horse riding public) to enquire, join in our fun, enjoy our stories and come along to a ride.

Rachael Saunders: Rachael started endurance in 2004, with a young 5y.o arab x - the now well known Big Charles has yielded Rachael many successes, taught  many lessons, shared many km's of good going terrain, rain, hail and shine, pitch black and glaring sun. A recent 160km buckle for Rachael and Charles, topped off their relationship, after a disasterous attempt and only vet out in 6years at the Tom Quilty Gold Cup 09.

With an ever growing passion for this sport, Rachael now brings up 2 youngsters, one a QH into his first 42km ride and the other just started under saddle a Quarab, to take the reins somewhat, as Big Charles enters a new level of his career, hoping to attempt the Shazada 400km ride 2010.
Rachael also a veterinarian with additional qualifications in equine sports physiology shares with all members of SCEI a desire to encourage people to this amazing sport and learn more from their horse than they ever imagined, whilst providing the uppermost in health and welfare to these amazing animals, our friends.
