Requirements for FEI rides
For information on FEI ride rules follow the link, a summary is provided below

HORSES IN FEI RIDES -
Must complete 3 x 80km rides as per AERA Rules, to become an Open Horse.
Ride Distances: FEI * 80-119km
FEI** 120-139km
FEI*** 140-160km
Must be at least 6 years old
Must complete at least 1 x 2* ride
Must complete at least 1 x 1* ride
If your horse has already completed an FEI ride within the past 24 months, it will start at the next star level. This is based on mileage, not star rating, as follows:
If your horse has already completed a FEI** 107km ride, it is only rated as a 1* horse, but can now compete at 2* level.
If your horse has already completed a FEI***120km ride, it is rated as a 2* horse, and can now compete at 3* level.
If your horse fails to compete at the next * level within 24 months of qualifying, it must re-qualify for its existing level in order to progress further.
Must be at least 7 years old
Can then enter 3* rides
After each FEI ride there is a mandatory rest period of 20 days before your horse can be entered in another FEI ride.
If your horse incurs a Metabolic Vet Out that requires invasive treatment, your horse will have a mandatory 60 day rest period before it can be entered in another FEI ride.

To attend a 1* FEI event, the following criteria is required:
Horses
Horses must be qualified "open" (yellow book) horses and not subject to AERA Rule H8 (13 month rule) or a Rest Order.
Horse must be at least six years old.
Horses must have current FEI registration.
Horses DO NOT require an FEI passport or National Identification Document (NID) to compete at 1* and 2* events. However, if a horse has been issued with the FEI Passport or NID, you must bring it with you to the event.
Riders
Riders must be qualified endurance riders.
Riders must have current FEI registration.
Minimum riding weight will be 70kg or 75kg. Please check the schedule prior to the event to confirm the minimum riding weight.
FEI registration form attached. Cost is $20 per horse, and $20 per rider. Fill in the form with your credit card details and fax it to Equestrian Australia, Sydney. It takes approximately one week to finalise the FEI registration through Equestrian Australia. No registration, no ride.
